SUMMARY:WiCyS Minnesota | BSides Austin: “Salesforce Snafus: Unveiling and Exploiting Security Misconfigurations Using Commonly Used Widgets”
DESCRIPTION:Join WiCyS Minnesota’s Jessa Gegax as she presents at BSides Austin on Salesforce Snafus: Unveiling and Exploiting Security Misconfigurations Using Commonly Used Widgets.  \nThis talk explores how to leverage the nooks and crannies of Salesforce to find and abuse misconfigurations that chain together and create serious vulnerabilities that leak sensitive data to adversaries. It highlights that security concerns still exist on applications built on a well-known CRM tool with declarative or “point-and-click” development\, where to discover them\, and how they can be remediated. It provides a real-world scenario of using various Salesforce widgets to find security vulnerabilities like Insecure Direct Object References (IDORs) and Broken Authorization as a means of stealing sensitive client information. It offers solutions for detection and prevention for these elevated attacks that relate to common security best practices. At the end of this discussion\, you will walk away with better awareness of the vulnerabilities existing in Salesforce\, how they can be discovered\, remediated\, then prevented. You may even learn a new trick or two on how to think like a hacker when building your company’s next communication tool! \n  \nThe very first BSides in Austin was organized in 2010 by Jack Daniel and Ben Tomhave. This was the fourth BSides ever to be held\, and it had about 30 attendees. In 2011\, Michael Gough stepped up and took over organization of our local event. Even as he continued to manage the BSides Austin events through 2015\, Michael also helped kick off BSides Texas in 2012\, and was heavily involved in BSides throughout Texas (including Dallas\, San Antonio and Houston). Matt and Janice have been running BSides Austin since 2016. BSides Austin has grown in that short time into a two-day event with around 750 participants. DESCRIPTION:WiCyS Colorado is supporting Jeffco Public Schools Information Technology (IT) department at their annual Jeffcon\, a student technology conference. \nThis one-day\, interactive conference allows students to learn about various IT roles from experienced Jeffco staff and industry professionals\, and explore various career paths in the field of IT. \nFeaturing Keynote Speaker: Ashley Ambrose starred collegiately at Mississippi Valley State from 1988-1992 and was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the second round (29th pick overall) of the 1992 NFL draft. He would go on to become a 13-year veteran in the league\, playing four seasons with the Colts (1992-95)\, three with Cincinnati (1996-98)\, three with New Orleans (1999\, 2003-04) and three with Atlanta (2000-02). \nAmbrose earned his degree in Industrial Technology in 1992 from MVSU\, where he lettered four years at cornerback. He had 17 interceptions\, 40 pass deflections and 110 tackles during his college career\, when he also had seven kick returns for touchdowns (four punt\, three kickoff). He has long been active in community service\, as he developed the “Ashley Ambrose All-A’s Club” that rewarded high school students and athletes who excelled academically. \nAmbrose earned All-Pro honors with the Bengals in 1996\, when he was also the AFC Defensive Back of the Year. During his career\, he had 42 interceptions\, returning three for touchdowns\, and also had 178 pass deflections to go with 514 tackles (464 solo). When the NFL started tracking the career pass deflections stat in 1994\, he had 173 of his overall total in the final 168 games of his career\, with that average of 1.03 per game ranking him fourth overall in the NFL between 1994 and 2009\, and just one of eight players to average one or more per game. \nHe also participated in VH-1’s Save the Music program and in the NFL United Way Hometown Huddles Campaign among many things he did as a professional\, which included donating hundreds of tickets to scholar-athletes. \nHe’s currently still working in the community as a Student Engagement Advocate in Dropout Prevention for the largest District in the Denver area. His job is to help our youth and African American students in K-12 to stay in school and help them continue to further their education for a better future. Ambrose is a native of New Orleans\, Louisiana but resides in Golden\, Colorado and is married to Melanie Ambrose and they have 4 kids.
