SUMMARY:WiCyS Minnesota | BSides Chicago: "Salesforce Snafus: Unveiling and Exploiting Security Misconfigurations Using Commonly Used Widgets"
DESCRIPTION:Join WiCyS Minnesota’s Jessa Gegax as she presents at BSides Chicago on Salesforce Snafus: Unveiling and Exploiting Security Misconfigurations Using Commonly Used Widgets.  \nThis talk explores how to leverage the nooks and crannies of Salesforce to find and abuse misconfigurations that chain together and create serious vulnerabilities that leak sensitive data to adversaries. It highlights that security concerns still exist on applications built on a well-known CRM tool with declarative or “point-and-click” development\, where to discover them\, and how they can be remediated. It provides a real-world scenario of using various Salesforce widgets to find security vulnerabilities like Insecure Direct Object References (IDORs) and Broken Authorization as a means of stealing sensitive client information. It offers solutions for detection and prevention for these elevated attacks that relate to common security best practices. At the end of this discussion\, you will walk away with better awareness of the vulnerabilities existing in Salesforce\, how they can be discovered\, remediated\, then prevented. You may even learn a new trick or two on how to think like a hacker when building your company’s next communication tool! \n  \nBSidesChicago is where the heart of hacking and infosec beats the loudest in the Chicagoland area! This isn’t just another conference—it’s a vibrant\, diverse\, and inclusive community of enthusiasts from every corner of the cybersecurity world\, coming together to ignite ideas\, share knowledge\, and push the boundaries of what’s possible. \n  \nRegister HERE

SUMMARY:WiCyS | Lynn Dohm Featured Speaker at Cyber Security Summit 2024
DESCRIPTION:Join WiCyS Executive Director Lynn Dohm as a Featured Speaker at Cyber Security Summit 2024. She will present her “Keeping an Eye on the “I” in the Inclusion”. Imagine a cybersecurity workforce where inclusive cultures increase the power of diversity of thought. One where the “D” in DEI (diversity\, equity\, and inclusion) truly stands for diversity and isn’t just “done” whereas the “I”; lays the foundation for success. This presentation will level-set where the cybersecurity workforce is now\, how to avoid a check-the-box attitude about diversity\, and taps into achieving growth by building inclusive cybersecurity teams that represent the uniqueness of all. This approach shows how today’s DEI journey will ripple through the organization and lead to tomorrow’s reality. \nToday’s technology and the related threat landscape are changing at warp speed\, making it hard to anticipate tomorrow. The cybersecurity community protects people\, processes\, and property\, and to combat outdated measures and tools\, we must do it faster. We know we are strongest when we work together to leverage our collective strengths. For the 14th annual Cyber Security Summit\, we come to the table to tackle emerging challenges and those beyond the horizon. \nRegister HERE for this event. SUMMARY:WiCyS | Lynn Presenting at Western Governor's University
DESCRIPTION:Join WiCyS Executive Director Lynn Dohm for her presentation at Western Governors University (WGU) Information Security for her Cybersecurity Leadership: Mobilize\, not Paralyze presentation. \nThe parallels between cybersecurity and inclusion are striking. Just as people only notice cybersecurity when an attack happens\, they only notice inclusion when they feel excluded. This session will shed light on why it can be challenging for leaders to understand the impact of exclusion\, share instances that cause women to feel excluded\, and help mobilize (and not paralyze) advocacy in action. \n  \nRegister for this free webinar HERE

SUMMARY:WiCyS October Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Weapons of Math Destruction: How Big Data Increases Inequality and Threatens Democracy by Cathy O’Neil \nWe live in the age of the algorithm. Increasingly\, the decisions that affect our lives—where we go to school\, whether we can get a job or a loan\, how much we pay for health insurance—are being made not by humans\, but by machines. In theory\, this should lead to greater fairness: Everyone is judged according to the same rules. \nBut as mathematician and data scientist Cathy O’Neil reveals\, the mathematical models being used today are unregulated and uncontestable\, even when they’re wrong. Most troubling\, they reinforce discrimination—propping up the lucky\, punishing the downtrodden\, and undermining our democracy in the process. Welcome to the dark side of Big Data. \nRegister HERE

SUMMARY:Webinar | National Security Risk Analysis
DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Ruby Booth from Sandia National Laboratories as they discuss the importance of federal decision-makers must make deterministic choices about future planning resource prioritization\, mitigation implementation\, and the creation of policy\, regulations\, and laws. They seek to ensure that our critical infrastructure – from food and water to electricity and internet to our democratic process – is safe and secure. Exacerbating that challenge is the interconnectedness of critical infrastructure systems\, the quality and availability of data\, and the shortage of risk professionals trained to work in this important but idiosyncratic analysis area. The events of recent years have underscored the need for robust\, effective\, and responsive analytic capabilities at all levels of government. It is not only essential that decision-makers be able to plan for expected harms\, but that they be able to react quickly and effectively to sudden\, novel\, or unexpected hazards. \n  \nWiCyS is proud to provide members the opportunity to earn CPE/CEU credits for attending WiCyS Webinars live.
