SUMMARY:Sandia National Laboratories Webinar | Toward Real-time Intrusion Detection In Cyber Networks
DESCRIPTION:Real-time intrusion characterization in cyber networks is a highly complex problem that requires network-informed anomaly detection tools for success. Dynamic analysis of network traffic features provides a means for detecting anomalies related to novel intrusions\, however\, is challenged by data storage\, real-time querying\, and processing constraints. Since a large proportion of features are irrelevant in determining specific intrusion characteristics\, efficient algorithms can be constructed\, based on bespoke selected features. In this talk\, we discuss a variety of current computational methods\, and their pitfalls\, for selecting real-time feature subsets over a range of different network attack types. In doing so\, we highlight a novel capability being developed at Sandia National Laboratories for network traffic intrusion detection.\n\n\n\n\nRegister HERE.

DESCRIPTION:Please join the WiCyS Neurodiversity Affiliate @ SANS Neurodiversity Summit on April 4th\, 2023. \nAs the cybersecurity talent shortage persists\, with an estimated 700\,000 unfilled jobs\, the industry needs to redouble its efforts to attract and retain workers. One meaningful way to accomplish this is by recognizing that jobs and workplaces can’t be “one size fits all.” As many as 20% of adults are neurodivergent\, and when we fail to account for the unique strengths\, experiences\, and challenges of neurodivergent cybersecurity professionals\, we miss opportunities to build the best teams. \nNeurodivergent (ND) people have brains that function in ways other than what is considered standard or “neurotypical” (NT). Examples of neurodivergence include but are not limited to autism\, ADHD\, dyslexia\, dyscalculia\, and synesthesia. These types of neurodivergence are not mutually exclusive\, meaning an individual might be on the autism spectrum and have ADHD\, for example. \nThis Summit\, backed by popular demand\, will be loaded with content developed by and for ND cybersecurity professionals\, but will also be invaluable to anyone who manages\, reports to\, works with\, or wants to support ND colleagues and friends. \nRegister HERE.

DESCRIPTION:Despite sexual assault from both family members and friends\, physical attacks that left her handicapped\, and a lifelong lack of support from her extended family\, Dr. Chanel Suggs persevered to become a cybersecurity expert\, teacher\, and the author of Against All Odds: Overcoming Racial\, Sexual\, and Gender Harassment on the Digital Battlefield (2021) \nTroubles followed from childhood into adulthood\, where she attempted to flee a violent relationship\, which led to an attack on life which permanently disabled her. Through it all\, Dr. Suggs found the positive energy to improve her situation. \nDetermined to never allow the violent experiences of life to define her. Dr. Suggs not only achieved her Doctorate of Science in Cybersecurity but 20 different certificates and licenses as well as in addition to security clearance for her career in protecting digital systems for both government and civilian organizations.
