WiCyS Germany Affiliate | Berlin Cybersecurity Social Germany Meetup

This session is part of the Berlin Cybersecurity Social community’s monthly meetup, where security professionals, leaders, and enthusiasts come together to share knowledge and connect. So are you a cybersecurity professional looking to connect with like-minded professionals, share experiences, and make friends? Look no further!
For this special edition of Berlin Cybersecurity Social, in partnership with WiCyS Germany, you’ll hear from Lisa Lobmeyer and Lara Kaiser of Security Research Labs (SRLabs) about a real-life example of where cyberattacks can have very real human consequences.
Lightning Talk: Ransomware with Real-World Consequences
Following ransomware attacks on women’s shelters, the SRLabs team supported affected organizations with incident response, detection tooling, and practical resources to help teams better understand the threats they were facing and strengthen their ability to respond.
In this session, Lisa Lobmeyer and Lara Kaiser will walk us through the case from both the defensive and offensive perspectives:
- How the ransomware attacks unfolded
– How incident response was coordinated across multiple organizations
– How custom tooling helped scale detection and response
– What the attackers’ methods reveal about how these organizations were targeted
– What the team learned from working with organizations where cybersecurity failures can translate directly into real-world safety risks
– How those lessons were turned into practical guidance and workshops for affected shelters
