Vice President and Chief Information Officer Integrated Defense Systems, Raytheon

Mona Bates serves as chief information officer and vice president of Information Technology (IT) for Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems (IDS). Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN), with 2016 sales of $24 billion and 63,000 employees, is a technology and innovation leader specializing in defense, civil government and cybersecurity solutions. Raytheon is headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts.

Headquartered in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, IDS has 32 locations around the world. Its broad portfolio of weapons, sensors and integration systems supports its customer base across multiple mission areas, including air and missile defense systems; missile defense radars; early warning radars; naval ship operating systems; C5I™ products and services; and other advanced technologies. IDS provides affordable, integrated solutions to a broad international and domestic customer base, including the U.S. Missile Defense Agency, the U.S. Armed Forces and the Department of Homeland Security.

Prior to her current role, Bates served as senior director for Intelligence, Information and Services (IIS) IT Program Execution as well as IT business partner lead for IIS Engineering. In this position, she facilitated strategic functional and program initiatives by leveraging enterprise IT capabilities and services.

Bates also led IT Strategy and Architecture at IIS and chaired the Raytheon Engineering Automation Council, providing a multibusiness, multidiscipline collaborative forum that fosters the development and implementation of standardized engineering solutions across the enterprise.

Bates has over 17 years of IT experience, both in the commercial sector and supporting the U.S. Department  of Defense. Before joining Raytheon, she held multiple senior leadership positions with increasing responsibility, leading IT programs and initiatives supporting the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and Joint Functional Component Command for Integrated Missile Defense. During this period Bates was instrumental in merging multiple contracts to create the MDA Enterprise IT Services organization, realizing efficiencies and cost savings across multiple regions and bringing new innovative capabilities to users in classified and unclassified domains.

Additionally, Bates has extensive private industry experience and has held positions as a technical engineer and organizational manager at large telecommunication firms including Verizon, where she provided network services to a global enterprise.

Bates holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, with an emphasis in technology management. She graduated magna cum laude from Regis University with a bachelor’s degree in computer networking. She is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional

(CISSP), an IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) practitioner, and a Competent Toastmaster (CT) from Toastmasters International. Bates is fluent in the Arabic language.
