This workshop event introduces a practical approach to asset management by integrating the principles of the 5S methodology—sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain—that are commonly used in manufacturing into cybersecurity practices with empathy and respect for all parties involved.
Participants will explore how the 5S framework can help identify and categorize critical software and hardware assets, ensuring that only necessary resources are maintained, protected, and optimized. By “sorting” and assessing assets, organizations can eliminate obsolete or redundant systems, reducing costs and minimizing potential attack surfaces. “Setting in order” and “shining” will involve organizing and maintaining essential assets to boost operational efficiency. “Standardizing” ensures consistent protection policies across all assets, while “sustaining” involves ongoing monitoring and updates to keep the system secure.
