AWS Security GameDay

 Wednesday, September 14 | 12pm-4pm CT

GameDay is a collaborative learning exercise that tests skills in implementing AWS solutions to solve real-world problems in a gamified, risk-free environment. This is a completely hands-on opportunity for WiCyS members to explore AWS services, architecture patterns, best practices, and group cooperation. Like in all GameDay events, attendees will be placed in teams to support the AWS “famous” (fictitious) startup, Unicorn.Rentals, currently facing several vulnerabilities that need to be secured in order for the business to operate. Secure Legends focuses on security incidents such as ransomware attacks and other breaches, and will introduce participants to conducting forensics to prevent and remediate them.

WiCyS members are provided with a simulated environment containing common vulnerabilities that they will secure using AWS services like IAM, Network Firewall, Backup, Systems Manager and much more. All WiCyS members and experience levels are welcome to participate! 

WiCyS players are broken up into teams of four, and given a starting architecture that they will then need to evolve throughout the day in response to internal and external events. There is no one right answer; the path that GameDay participants take is up to them, based on the AWS resources at their disposal in pre-packaged AWS accounts. This is a completely hands-on opportunity to learn about AWS best practices, new AWS services, and AWS architecture patterns.

Acceptance is on a first-come, first-serve basis and is limited to the first 350 members.

Kickoff Webinar: Introduction to AWS Security GameDay

Date: Wednesday, September 7 from 1pm-2 pm CT

Accepted participants will be invited to the Introduction to AWS Security GameDay kickoff webinar on September 7. This session will provide an overview of the AWS Security GameDay. If you haven’t participated in an AWS GameDay event before or you are curious about what you need to prepare before the event, this session is for you! We will have live Q/A and share tips & tricks that will help you to lead the scoreboard. We recommend this session for all participants.

This event is open to all WiCyS members of all experience levels.

PLATFORM

The events will be streamed on the AWS GameDay Twitch channel. Participants will play on the GameDay engine on the day of the event.
