Sandra McLeod, director of Advanced Security Initiatives Group at Cisco Systems, is one of four distinguished women speakers presenting a keynote at the Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) conference, March 12-14 in Aurora, Colorado.

McLeod’s presentation, “We’re all in this together: Transforming Security at Cisco,” will cover how the company is transforming product security from a program of policing to building partnerships and working together with product teams to improve security and reduce risk for customers. Building secure solutions requires a commitment to security at every step in the process, but creating that culture of security and accountability can be a challenging journey.

In her current role, McLeod protects Cisco’s products and customers through attack-focused security evaluations, red team exercises and penetration testing. Her passion for helping product teams build secure solutions comes from years of working on developing and operating financial and medical software solutions. Since joining Cisco eight years ago, McLeod has held a number of different roles, including building a forensics and counterfeit analysis team and leading the development of automated security testing services for cloud offerings. Today, her focus is on partnering with Cisco’s product teams to identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities, driving down risk, and improving the security of our products.

“Diversity is key to growing and unlocking the full potential of our cybersecurity workforce. WiCyS provides the ideal community and opportunity to encourage and inspire women to become part of the Cybersecurity solution,” McLeod said.

The WiCyS conference will bring together more than 1,650 women and allies in cybersecurity from industry, academia, government, nonprofits and research to share their knowledge and expertise while networking and mentoring. The conference is unique as it zeroes in on recruiting, retaining and advancing women in cybersecurity careers.
