WiCyS Statement on Nashville, TN Announcement for 2024 Conference

We are heartbroken by the recent law-making in Tennessee that discriminates against women and the LGBTQIA+ community, and we vigorously oppose these laws. Any discrimination against any group is against our values. The WiCyS 2024 conference location was contracted four years ago, before any of this legislation came to light. Nevertheless, we recognize that this is challenging for many in our community. WiCyS is 100% committed to the security and wellbeing of our members and we are considering all options to respond to this challenge. To determine the best path forward, we are talking to the event planners, the venue, the city of Nashville, local law enforcement and emergency services, and our Equity Advocacy Committee, regarding the concerns and safety of our members and attendees.

The safety and inclusion of all our members year-round and at our annual conferences is extremely important to us. We are doing everything we can, including holding listening sessions, and will provide updates as we move forward.

WiCyS was formed ten years ago to create opportunities for women in the field of cybersecurity, and our umbrella includes members of all under-represented groups in cybersecurity. We are actively working to ensure that every day we are learning and growing as an organization to be effective in our mission of support and advocacy for women in cybersecurity.
